Holiday Celebrations

Grand Chanukah Celebration

Chanukah 2020Friday, December 16th (6:15 pm)

Hooray for Chanukah! Let’s gather together as an extended family as we anticipate our 8 day Festival of Lights. Our TIRS students have prepared a medley of Chanukah music for the occasion. You bring dinner, we’ll provide the latkes.

Return of the Chanu-ski-ah

Chanuskiah Sunday December 18th (4:30 pm)

We’re not afraid of the cold! Let’s usher in the first night of Chanukah outside in the Temple parking lot with our favourite homemade Chanukiah assembled from skis! We’ll stay toasty alongside the candlelight and our classic holiday songs.

If you were unable to attend, you can still view the recordings on our Facebook page.

Gourmet Chanukah Meal Demo

Wednesday December 21st (5:30 pm)

Who says Chanukah foods need to be unhealthy? We welcome our beloved chef Anne Khazzam for a cooking demo on healthy and exciting Chanukah treats. Anne will walk us through the steps on Zoom. Registrants to be provided a recipe list so you can prepare the meal for yourself.

Israeli Movie and Lunch: Turn Left at the End of the World

Thursday, December 22nd (12:00 pm)

We’ll trade the popcorn for latkes and watch an Israeli classic film about an Indian family settling in Israel in the 1960’s. Israel Embassy spokesperson Eli Lipshitz will lead us in a conversation to follow on the diversity of Israeli society today. Please call the office if you need help with transportation.

Kabbalat Shabbat with OCDSB School Trustee Nili Kaplan-Myrth

Friday, December 23rd (6:15 pm)

Chanukah demands that we overwhelm the darkness in our midst with Macabean light. We welcome a modern day Macabbee, Nili Kaplan Myrth, to share some of her experiences as a physician and new OCDSB trustee encountering the challenges in our time.

All programs hosted at Temple Israel, 1301 Prince of Wales Drive (except the cooking demo). Masking required for indoor programs. Programs will be livestreamed on Facebook (except the Israeli Movie Afternoon) but we encourage you to come in person. Please register online.
