Giving Committee

“Kindness, I’ve discovered, is everything in life.” ― Isaac Bashevis Singer

We would like to warmly welcome members of Temple to join us. The purpose of the Giving Committee is to foster a culture of giving and philanthropy at Temple Israel that:

  • empowers our community to care for one another and others (Gimilut Chasadim)
  • expresses our value for an inclusive and welcoming congregation (Kehilah)
  • is integral to how we work together as a sacred community
  • strengthens and sustains our community for now and future generations

The Giving Committee reports annually to the Board of Directors on Giving Results. An annual Giving Plan is proposed for Board discussion and approval.

Contact the Office to be in touch with Chair of the Giving Committee.

 Volunteer Awards

In 2006, Temple Israel's Board of Directors established two awards to recognize the outstanding contributions made by volunteers in our Temple community.

* The Bercovitch/Singer Annual Volunteer Award honours adult members who provided extraordinary service to the Temple community.

* The Harriet Schneider Annual Youth Volunteer Award recognizes members for voluntary work by or with Temple youth.

One of Temple Israel's great strengths, and a source of much pride, is our community's volunteerism. Whether for social action, or for TIRS (Temple Israel Religious School), or in support of our youth, or in general management of our sacred community - including religious services and observance of High Holy Days and special events - Temple members often take on volunteer roles.

At this time, The Volunteer Awards Committee - chaired by Merle Haltrecht-Matte with members Ezra Miller, Sandra Goldstein and Sarah Good - requests members' input by nominating outstanding Volunteers.

Award recipients will be formally acknowledged at the May10 Shabbat Service.

Please contact Merle (savtamerle@gmail.com) with suggestions of nominees by April 10.

Include name(s) and rationale for your nomination.
