Door to the Future
Temple Israel’s building has served us well for almost 50 years, and now it’s time for a refresh.
Updates to improve accessibility, security and aesthetics will ensure that our building can best serve the needs of our current membership and next generations.
Building Renewal
Temple Israel Synagogue, our well-loved spiritual home, is nearly 50 years old. Built for 100 families, it now is the gathering place, the school, the celebration space and the locus of prayer and ceremonies for more than 300 families.
With a list of improvements that were deemed necessary by the congregation, Figure Architects Collective was engaged to redesign plans for the new renovation.
With a focus on accessibility and security, Temple Israel will have a new entrance, an elevator between floors, a second universal washroom on the main floor, an accessible bimah with a shallow ramp. There will also be flexible meeting space, an improved layout of the staff offices, integrated audio-visual capability and necessary security improvements for all of us. We look forward to an accessible and more welcoming Temple Israel in the very near future, a Temple that we can all build together.
Following an overwhelmingly positive vote on March 6, 2025 to go forward, we are re-launching the Door to the Future Campaign to fund our synagogue’s renewal.
